Working closely with the owners, we carefully designed this new commercial building to recall the working waterfront architecture of Anacortes’ past, yet still feel contemporary.

For example, the building's simple, whitewashed, shingled forms are a direct interpretation of historical elements, while the modern glass curtainwall entry ties the building to the present.

Rich details add interest on a more intimate level. Custom-designed connections for the heavy timber trusses, laser-cut fish patterns on the steel stairs, a glass elevator, glazed exterior canopies, and architectural concrete on the retaining walls are a few of the elements that make this building special.

The site design, including the landscape's plant selection, was carefully planned to complement existing development in the area. The owners thoughtfully included public access in their planning, such as an espresso stand in the grand atrium, where one can sit and read the paper and look across to the commercial fishing vessels.
