Bayview Pond and Bay House

This broad, meadowy, 10-acre pastoral site includes a territorial view of Padilla Bay and a man-made trout pond.

Using the pond as the back yard, this house was designed long and narrow to allow views of both the pond on one side of the house and the bay on the other side from as many rooms as possible.

Multiple covered porches on both sides of the home allow outside "rooms" to be used according to sun position and temperature. Multi-colored slate flooring and carefully crafted concrete and slate steps add detail to make the porches feel house-like.

Wide plank cherry flooring over radiant heated floors make the home cozy and warm for stocking-covered feet. Extensive interior wood and stonework give a sense of Old World craft and permanence to the home.

Interiors flow from space to space with almost no hallway, utilizing square footage as efficiently as possible. Rooms are delineated by expansions or contractions in the linear form, which keeps the floor plan open while maintaining the sense of room and reducing the scale of the house.
